Church Times: Dr Williams calls for ”˜shared honesty’

THE Anglican Communion may not survive its current crisis over authority and differing theological perspectives, the Archbishop of Canterbury acknowledged on Tuesday.

But he insisted: “Even if we are separated by a number of canonical, theological determinations; even if we blew apart as a communion in chaos and disruption, which God forbid, sooner or later we would have to hear the voice of Christ say: ”˜There’s your brother, there’s your sister, there’s a long journey for you together in the path towards reconciliation.’”

Dr Williams was giving the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) a 40-minute presentation on the recommendations of the final report of the Windsor Continuation Group (WCG), the body created, as he put it, to “contain the chaos and division” that threatened the Communion over the issue of human sexuality.

Who appointed Ms Schori to the Joint Standing Committee?

ABC, it is not just about human sexuality.

  3. Fr. Dale says:

[blockquote]The report identifies “Ecclesial deficit” — a phrase, Dr Williams said, intended to indicate confusion over the Communion’s identity. It suffered at present from “a lack of clarity about what kind of a fellowship it’s meant to be. As long as we have that lack of clarity, we will be unclear about what we really mean by church.”[/blockquote]
There’s that pesky word “confusion” again. How long did it take GAFCON to construct the Jerusalem Declaration and adopt it?

Have brothers and sisters who have divided in the past reconciled? Rome and the Orthodox? Protestants and Catholics? Forgive me for saying it, but this seems like Pilate washing his hands. As if he doesn’t really even care. I have thought better of him than that, but I find this statement deeply depressing.

So says the ABC: “sooner or later we would have to hear the voice of Christ say: ‘There’s your brother, there’s your sister, there’s a long journey for you together in the path towards reconciliation.”

The journey gets longer and longer. As long as ACC-4 continues to affect the AC as it now proposes, then the sooner it (the AC) breaks apart the better. More accurately, the ABC should be saying, ‘there you are brothers and sisters as beings created by God, but no longer brothers and sisters united through salvation in Jesus Christ’.
Before reconciliation, there must be acknowledgment, repentance and acceptance and true acceptance of Jesus in their eyes.

    “shared honesty”

Honesty is not being exhibited here and certainly what honesty there is is being shared not with the whole but with those who have a secular, progressive agenda.

The archepiscopate of Rowan Williams has been proof that when one stands for nothing in particular, one disappoints everyone in general.

Did I log onto the “Comedy Channel” website in error? This is hilarious!

What is needed, especially from +Canterbury, is courage.

    #10. Jill Woodliff,
God bless you Jill. You remain the voice of the Holy Spirit on the threads of the blogs. Much of what is said here is human response to a sense of frustration, betrayal and abandonment, myself included. It is also however a supportive reality check for many of us to see others expressing similar frustrations. Never stop telling us to pray!

  11. Sherri2 says:

    Thank you, Jill.

“sooner or later we would have to hear the voice of Christ say: ‘There’s your brother, there’s your sister, there’s a long journey for you together in the path towards reconciliation.”

That would explain the virtual total unity of Christendom today then, eh?

So the Archbishop doesn’t really have to worry about the disintegration of the Anglican Communion because someday we’ll all be reunited.

    “Will the circle be unbroken
Bye and bye Lord bye and bye”

Or, as John Maynard Keynes said, in the long run, we’re all dead.

  13. Phil says:

“…‘There’s your brother, there’s your sister, there’s a long journey for you together in the path towards reconciliation.’” … unless you happen to be part of the ACNA, in which case you’re not part of our club. The Oriental Orthodox are on my speed dial (tilting at windmills alert!), but your representatives are not welcome at our meetings.

One can see Rowan as the addressee to the question, “How long will ye hobble between two ways? Will ye serve YHWH or Baal?”

The answer would be as above, I fear.

  15. A Floridian says:

Unity is created by having Christ, The Word of Life, Truth and Love living in us and by nothing else.

    John 5:38-47, I John 5:11-12

When one ‘side’ departs and makes up their own ‘word’ to live and their own definition of ‘love’ and exchanges the truth of God for a lie (Romans 1)…then unity is impossible. Dialogue is even impossible… I John 4:5-6

RW continues to give the revisionists equal billing and legitimacy. This is his heresy or apostasy or both.

The biggest travesties during this shameful meeting are KJS sitting in good standing assuming headship of the whole shebang and the $1.5 million dollar ‘Trojan Horse’ that is being foisted…a sexual agenda indoctrination program funded by the organization in Atlanta.

I hope the Global South and GAFCON groups are ready for the future without KJS and Rowan.

Don’t blame Orombi for missing the ‘vote’ because they would have had their own plan B if they didn’t have the votes…a mini-indaba/delphi session and a ‘mind-of the meeting’ cooked up communique.

  16. Spiro says:

Talking about HONESTY, I am sorry to be blunt:
Concerning the matter at hand (the crisis in the Anglican Communion), the ABC himself has not been honest; is not being honest; and does not appear to understand what it really means to be honest.

Shared honesty? The faithful Christians in the Anglican Communion have all these years been sharing our honesty with a bunch of dishonest and fraudulent men and women with agenda that is anything but Christian. We thought we were dealing with honest Christians. Like sheep, we were led to the slaughter. Now we are being sacrificed in the altar of law courts and liberal media machines.

If the frauds in ECUSA had any modicum of honesty in them, the Anglican Communion would not be in the disorganized and miserable shape it is today under RW’s watch.

There are more than enough evident to back my view that the ABC is not honest in his handling of this crisis:

The ABC has consistently exhibited a high level of political calculations and maneuvers that are anything but honest:
    – Remember DAS; remember NOLA; remember his pre-mature issuance of Lambeth invitations; remember his secret celebration of Holy Eucharist with Gay/Lesbian clergy in England; remember him saying one thing and doing the other; remember him making profound statements only to withdraw them or make a 180% turn for his political or other advantages; one could go on, and on, and on.

The truth of the death of this once great communion is finally becoming apparent even to the head-in-sanders: The Anglican Communion that was the pride of the British Empire and the former colonies died under ABC Rowan William.

The Anglican Communion of RW is dead.
Long live The Anglican Communion that is of Christ.
    Thanks be to God!

This is a great headline, if a tad ironic, in light of this afternoon’s events at ACC-14.

  18. dwstroudmd+ says:

Yes, the ABC’s shared honesty is on videotape for all to see. He shares fully in the dis-honesty therein exhibited. Part of the cabal of colonialists manipulating the system to remain in power. It would be funny if it were not such a fawningly sycophantish suck-up.

    Rowan, wipe your nose.

  19. Choir Stall says:

    Prediction:
    1. The Global South and its united partners tell Williams and Schori and company to stuff it, and they form a new communion among themselves. That should constitute about 50 million people. This will happen sometime next year.
    2. The mainstays and backbones (the silent unmoved pewsitters, led by good priests) will howl and raise a storm that the Communion has been lost under the hands of revisionists.
    3. Williams will be at wits end and will convene something of a backbone within himself and call some extraordinary meeting.
    4. TEC and the ACC will be thrown under the bus because, let’s face it, they are death itself and are no way to put on a Church.
    5. The Global South will take its sweet time reconstituting with Canterbury. Maybe they’ll eventually reconcile. Canterbury will have a new ABC by then….and he’ll know what he must do.
So….Global South, stop wasting your time and just call these insufferable and petulous children out into the street and show them your backside. The sooner you do the better off we’ll all be.
