Helmsley dog gets $12 million

Leona Helmsley’s dog will continue to live an opulent life, and then be buried alongside her in a mausoleum. But two of Helmsley’s grandchildren got nothing from the late luxury hotelier and real estate billionaire’s estate.

Helmsley left her beloved white Maltese, named Trouble, a $12 million trust fund, according to her will, which was made public Tuesday in surrogate court.

She also left millions for her brother, Alvin Rosenthal, who was named to care for Trouble in her absence, as well as two of four grandchildren from her late son Jay Panzirer — so long as they visit their father’s grave site once each calendar year.

Otherwise, she wrote, neither will get a penny of the $5 million she left for each.

In addition to our Anglican mission and work in the Black Hills, my wife and I operate a home-style boarding kennel, with individualized treatment and spa options through our grooming and ‘petique’ shop. We would be more than haoppy to provide the Helmsley dog tender loving care for the rest of it’s natural life.

Since we are also developing a Franciscan/Benedictine retreat and training center, coupled with ‘B-His‘, the Black Hills Institute for Sustainalibity, a sustainable alternative housing and living research center, the dog could serve as a welcoming committee for retreatants and workshop participants, along with our other dogs and cats, plus boarders.

I would think his needs could be adequately met at our facility in the ‘Banana Belt of South Dakota’.

Now if I could just get this wealthy dog to bite me, I could then sue it for pain and suffering……

The contrast with Ms. Astor is remarkable. Such bitterness that she couldn’t even be charitable in death.

  4. Irenaeus says:

Helmsley made her will an unwitting indictment of herself. It paints her as selfish, vain, and vindictive.

Well, now we know the answer to the musical question:

How much gets that doggie from the widow?

  6. libraryjim says:

    skip it, it didn’t work.

    Just use the original words:
How much is that doggie in the window?
    It works better.
