Texas birdwatcher/nature lover here. I’m hoping to go out Monday morning and see this phenomenon if winds and rain don’t tear it all down. This has been in many local media outlets (in print and on line), on CNN, AP, and talked about on bird/nature forums.
Discovery of new species and new phenomena increases my awe of God and increases my joy. I like knowing that God still has such treats for us. It also reaffirms for me 1) the infinite Creativity of the Creator and 2) that God’s not through with us yet.
Connie, I would love to hear your first-hand impression. A fellow bird watcher, nature lover, for most of the summer I have been entertained by a beautiful argioipe aurantia, an orb-weaving spider, who has maintained a web in the vicinity of my back door. It’s moved several times and at times has been surprisingly large (nothing like *this*!). A couple of times I thought she had disappeared, but she returned each time. Not this last time, though, and her last web, with its “zipper” still intact still hangs forlornly by the door. I never thought I’d miss a spider. Does anyone remember seeing a Tarzan movie in which people running through the jungle wer snared abruptly in a giant spider web? I was very small when I saw that and it terrified me. =:0
I may be delighted yet again if the roadkill a Cuero, Texas woman found turns out to be a new mammal species – the legendary “chupacabra” (goat sucker in Spanish). She saved the head for DNA analysis. See today’s Yahoo Odd News for photo and story. The Houston Chronical has a different photo, same AP story. The FoxAZ11.com website (Tucson TV station) has an article featuring a San Antonio TV station video of this story, too.

Giant spider webs I can handle. Giant spiders, however, would be another thing entirely.
