North Korea accused South Korea on Saturday of using civilians as human shields around military bases on an island that the North hit with an artillery attack this week. The accusation is an apparent effort to quell South Korean outrage over the barrage, which killed two civilian construction workers.
The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency also issued new warnings about joint United States-South Korea naval exercises in the Yellow Sea off North Korea, which will include an American aircraft carrier.
“If the U.S. brings its carrier to the West Sea of Korea at last, no one can predict the ensuing consequences,” the report said, using the Korean name for the Yellow Sea.
Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black… Or in other words ‘how dare you have civilians near your military base in a time when we aren’t actually in a declared war, we can’t attack you out of no where without hitting civilians.’ Who has been the aggressor by the way?
The North koreans are wrong in saying that “no one can predict the cnsequences,” and they know it. Anyone familiar with U.S. Navy airpower can tell them that an American airstrike can be absolutely devastating. Just ask the Iraqis who were pounded in 1983.
China must be chewing on its fingernails and muttering those interesting Chinese curses because of its need to defend its old Thorn in its side. But if the NYT’s article is right, N Korea is about to getting bitten by the Beast Of Unintended Consequences if the S. Koreans decide that N Korea is no longer its cultural blood kin. Larry
