The Rt. Rev. John W. Howe announces retirement as Episcopal Bishop of Central Florida

Bishop Howe called for the election of his successor, the Fourth Bishop of Central Florida, in a Special Convention to be held Nov. 19 at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, Orlando.

“These last two-plus decades of my life have been a roller coaster of joy and sorrow ”“ but mostly joy ”“ as we have seen God work in our midst in extraordinary ways,” Bishop Howe said. “I came here after 13-and-a-half years in one of the truly great congregations in The Episcopal Church. And, as every Bishop will tell you, leaving your parish family behind is a very difficult thing to do.”

The exit of another faithful bishop. Prayers that Central Florida will elect another faithful shepherd who will hold firm to the mission of the church.

    Canon Harmon:

I hope you begin to prayerfully consider and discern whether you are being called to stand as a candidate.

I suppose it was inevitable. May both +John and Karen make themselves available in the strength of their retirement to the dioceses and parishes of TECUSA, for proclamation of the Gospel, and ministry in the power of the Spirit.

Indeed, prayers should begin now for the God-blessed successor to +Central Florida. What a wonderful opportunity to serve a great diocese and be mentored by a great bishop.

Bishop howe is leaving his diocese in excellent condition for the future. In 2009, only 18 of its 88 churches had ASA of 66 orr less and only 28 had Plate & Pledge of less than $150K. Statmann
