    The best hoaxes are those that have you wondering for a moment if they might be true … a daily paper here announced government plans to increase local taxes in areas with purer air. Where the air quality was good, higher tax would be imposed on home properties; polluted areas, lower tax. Given that the government had (in all seriousness) proposed not long ago to increase property taxes on homes with stunning views, this spoof was all too plausible … and all the more fun for that. However, sometimes reality overtakes hoax. What can we say about a European Union plan to ban all petrol or diesel driven vehicles from urban centres?
