This entire area is under earthquake and tsunami threat, and if a major quake occurs offshore, the effects could be devastating as far inland as Seattle and beyond, and clear up into Vancouver and beyond. I was stationed with the Air Force at Neah Bay, on the olympic Peninsula, in 1974, and I know just how vulnerable that low-lying area is. Fortunately, this quake didn’t cause major damage or loss of life, and it should serve as a warning to everyone in the area that they need to be prepared. That fact was clearly demonstrated in Seattle just a few years ago, when there was major damage downtown.
