Green Bay’s controversial nativity scene came down from City Hall Wednesday.
Madison’s Freedom from Religion Foundation filed a lawsuit to keep it from ever going up again.
Foundation co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor said the city did something unconstitutional and “really in your face.”
She wants a court order barring Green Bay from doing the same thing next year. They also want financial damages.
Man oh man – what ever happened to freedom of worship guarranteed by the first amendent to the Constitution. That includes those that don’t want to worship but certainly means that the non-worshippers shouldn’t bash that do worship.
Interesting conundrum. If the court were to support completely sanitizing the public sector from religion, does that not, de facto, establish atheism? Perhaps one day the Supreme Court will have the courage to recognize that for many years, it has persisted in missing what the First Amendment really says.
The court should agree with the atheists. Let them or even compel them to work Sundays and holidays. Increase their taxes to help those in need so that they do not get to hide behind the churches and religious organizations that have soup kitchens, pantires, and funds to help provide heating, utility, and rent assistance. And take away their money. After all, the “in God we trust” is such a violation of their rights….
Nasty little scolds.
