That is a fine photo! Still, there is nothing like seeing one light up the yard in person. We have had a couple coming to our feeder for two years now. It’s like God went all Emiril on their feathers. POW!

WHERE are these common in SC? This is a bird which is not yet on our life list! If they are easily seen in the Charleston area we’ll be down soon.

We have Painted Bunting in Colorado too. It is always a treat to see one. That is, except for the one I saw years ago in the Black Forest (near Colorado Springs) following a brief but intense hail storm; It had taken a direct hit and had died from a broken neck.
I wept.
