Clinton still lags in S.C. poll

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in South Carolina shows Barack Obama continuing to hold a double digit-lead over Hillary Clinton in the January 26th Primary Election. The survey, conducted the night after Clinton’s stunning victory in New Hampshire, shows no bounce for the victor. In fact, there is virtually no change in the numbers at all. It’s Obama 42% Clinton 30%. John Edwards attracts 15% of the vote, Bill Richardson picked up 2% and 10% were not sure. Richardson has since dropped out of the race for the White House.

Sorry, but I’m swearing off polls!

Right you are, BCP28. We have seen the reality of polls, pundits, anchors, “political expert panels,” and all the rest. Worthless.

I think the juxtaposition of this post and the post on New Hampshire polls getting it wrong is fun! I don’t know if the irony was intended, but it is fun to see.

78% of people believe polls are ‘reasonably accurate’, according to a poll.

If IRNS’s theory about undecideds breaking unevenly in NH is correct, then Clinton, if the SC primary went today, would have little hope there, since the combined undecided and Richardson votes would have to all break her way to tie Obama.

Of course it’s two weeks away and there are always margins of error. We have just too many polls. Daily tracking, entry and exit polls, polls about results (!!). It’s an entire industry which muddies the political waters.

The only polling that matters is in the voting booth.
