  1. CSeitz-ACI says:

Well done for Markus. As these appointments at major UK universities shrink in traditional Christian disciplines, it is nice to see Markus given this chair.

An encouraging turn of events at Oxford. But I wonder: over the past decade or so, which chairs in traditional Christian disciplines at major UK universities does CSeitz-ACI imagine as having “shrunk”? Cambridge, Oxford, Durham, Edinburgh, St. Andrews, Aberdeen, King’s College London, Nottingham, Sheffield, Exeter and others have all either appointed or promoted people to chairs in NT and/or Biblical studies during that time. Edinburgh has not (yet) appointed a professor of New Testament to replace Larry Hurtado, but one suspects this is because they want to promote someone internally.

  3. CSeitz-ACI says:

#2 Edinburgh struggled to make an OT appointment at the senior level and he (Hans Barstad) is about to retire. Is there a Chair replacement for Robert Hayward at Durham? Will Williamson and Barton both be replaced at the Chair level in Oxford? This has not happened at Cambridge re: Davies and Gordon. Glasgow is a shell. St. Andrews has intertestamental faculty in OT posts. I simply wonder who will be raising up the next generation of OT scholars with any traditional theological interests.
