A while ago, a state funeral was offered to the last three Canadian WWI vets (well, to the one who ended up surviving the longest, anyway). All three refused. At first, that seems humble, but I don’t know. The state funeral would have been to honour all WWI vets, really, wouldn’t it…
1) We are losing 1000 WWII veterans per day
2) Our Korean veterans are now facing retirement, a change in life that exacerbates Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
3) We have lost more Vietnam veterans to suicide than died on the battlefield
4) It is estimated that 40% our Gulf War veterans will return w/ some form of PTSD, and these heroes are more apt to turn to their church than psychologists for initial counseling. Please look for them and find them the help they need.

An interesting related story, from earlier this year.

I think there should be a state funeral offered in honor of all those who served in that terrible war.
