(BBC) Turkish PM blames Ankara bombing on ISIS

The Islamic State (IS) group is the prime suspect in the Ankara bombings that killed nearly 100 on Saturday, Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu has said.

No group has said it carried out the attack, but the government believes that two male suicide bombers caused the explosions, hitting a peace rally.

The official death toll is 97, but one of the main groups at the march put the number of dead at 128.

The funerals of more of the victims are taking place on Monday.

    Perhaps it was IS.

But there is also the issue of whether Russia provided any intelligence, materials or other support. The Russian intervention in Ukraine was preceded by a wave of bombings. None as destructive as this, but then, here Russia has very useful proxies to use as suicide bombers.

It suits Russia to have Turkey destablised, for a number of reasons – not just its opposition to Assad, a Russian ally, but also its threats to wean itself off Russian gas, its support for Crimean Tatars, and its potential position as leader of Turkic ethnicity across Central Asia.
