[blockquote]Over all, the pope’s message, like that of most of his public events during this visit to the United States, was one of joy and hope, not doctrinal orthodoxy[/blockquote]
This silly attempt and placing the two things at odds is artificial and nonsensical. It’s BOTH/AND, not EITHER/OR. Geez!
And thanks to the New York Times for taking care include this perspective:
to speak out against abortion — an issue over which many American Catholics disagree with the church.
and also this:
the pope avoided any direct of some social issues on which he and many if not most American Catholics disagree: contraception, homosexuality and the whether women should be admitted to the priesthood.
Apparently, there has just been too much love shown this pope for the past few days. Of course, we don’t really believe all that stuff!
No — for that individual is wearing a cardinal’s skullcap. And, in any event, until he is ordained in the Catholic Church, it’s Dr. Steenson, not Fr. Steenson.

Is that Father Steenson just to the right of the crucifix?
#3,

I believe that’s the Archbishop of New York.
Thank you Dr. Tighe and Cennydd.
