A reminder: Bishop Jecko's funeral in Tallahassee SATURDAY (corrected)

Several commenters in Florida have asked us to post this reminder. So here you go, for those who are interested and can make it to Tallahassee on Saturday. (apologies for the incorrect information originally posted. We’ve corrected the info below.)

Funeral Service for Bishop Stephen Jecko

In Memoriam
Bishop Stephen Jecko
January 15, 1940 – June 7, 2007

A liturgy for The Burial of the Dead and Celebration of the Holy Eucharist in Thanksgiving for the life of The Right Reverend Stephen Hays Jecko will be offered on Saturday, July 14th at 2:00 pm. at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Tallahassee. The Right Reverend Frank Cerveny and The Right Reverend John Howe, bishop of Central Florida will concelebrate and The Reverend Eric Dudley will be the preacher.

It is important to Joan Jecko that Bishop Jecko’s ashes come back to Florida for a special celebration with those who knew him well and loved him as our Bishop.

Because they were not able to have his ashes in Dallas, this will function not as a memorial service but as a funeral. A reception with the family will take place on the grounds of St. Peter’s immediately following the service.

St. Peter’s Anglican Church is located at 901 Thomasville Road , Tallahassee, Florida. For more information call St. Peter’s at 850-701-0664, or go to our website at www.saint-peters.net.

Also, the funeral isn’t “tomorrow” (Friday) but Saturday, July 14, at 2:00 p.m.

    We’ve corrected the post.
    Sorry for the error.

This elf is utterly exhausted from handling the blog solo much of the past 10 days on top of other responsibilities. I don’t really know what day it is any more… it feels like today should be Friday 😉

  4. flaanglican says:

Elf, your efforts are truly appreciated. Thank you.

I would like to attend. However, I only met Bp. Jecko on a few occasions, and so I will stay away to allow those who knew him and his family better to pay their last earthly respects. (Parking is limited at St. Peter’s, and the church doesn’t have quite that much room.)

To his family, my prayers are with you!

    Peace

You are definitely welcome to attend. In fact, Fr. Eric Dudley wouldn’t have it any other way. He is welcoming any and all parishoners, not just close visitors and family, to attend. You may have missed an email he sent to parishoners last night:
    “July 11, 2007

There has been much talk and many announcements about how to make our visitors comfortable at the funeral service for our beloved Bishop Stephen Jecko this Saturday. I just want to make sure that you, the parishioners of St. Peter’s, know that your attendance at the service will mean much to me and to this dear family. Joan Jecko is laying her husband of many years to rest in Florida, where he faithfully served as bishop. Sean Jecko is a former staff member, and his wife, Christine Dombroski Jecko is the daughter of parishioners and friends John and Julie Dombroski. These people are family to us; come and surround them with a family’s love and comfort. The service is at 2:00 pm, Saturday July 14. This is your opportunity to bid a farewell to the Bishop who placed us in the Diocese of South Rwenzori, and whose example helped us cross over into the new Anglicanism. I will personally be honored by your presence among us on Saturday.

For some reason, I’m not getting the e-mails. I usually visit the website for information about upcoming events at St. Peter’s. (I’m still trying to get back into the habit of regular Sunday attendance, so I don’t see “the Keys” every week.)

    Peace

  8. saj says:

Clergy (anglican and episcopal) in attendance will not vest. Only the altar party will vest. This is a change in previous instructions.

  9. flaanglican says:

    Libraryjim,
If you haven’t already, you can visit the St. Peter’s website (http://www.saint-peters.net) and submit your email address in the eKeys signup box at the bottom of the left menu on any page.

  10. libraryjim says:

    Thanks, I’ll do that!

Interesting that the family chose to hold the funeral for the retired Bishop of Florida at St. Peter’s Anglican church in Florida and not an Episcopal church.

  12. saj says:

The Jecko family has close ties with St. Peters. The rector officiated at thier son’s wedding and their daughter-in-law’s family are members there. +Steve was scheduled to ordain a deacon on staff to the priesthood at St. Peter’s in late June (person was ordained by Keith Ackerson). +Steve has been to St. Peters to do confirmations also.
