David Owen: Warning signs of an Israeli strike on Iran

Some key decision makers in Israel fear that unless they attack Iranian nuclear enrichment facilities in the next few months, while George W Bush is still president, there will not be another period when they can rely on the United States as being anywhere near as supportive in the aftermath of a unilateral attack.

In the past 40 years there have been few occasions when I have been more concerned about a specific conflict escalating to involve, economically, the whole world. We are watching a disinformation exercise involving a number of intelligence services. Reality is becoming ever harder to disentangle.

Please, no! Read it all.

I don’t claim to know what’s really true, given all the swirling vortex of contradictory information we’re hearing about Israel and Iran. But this story seems very one-sided to me, very anti-Israel and anti-Bush. Personally, I wouldn’t blame Israel at all for bombing Iran’s reactors, as they did once before. A madman like Iran’s president shouldn’t be allowed to posses a nuclear weapon.

Ironically, we’ve just seen North Korea finally persuaded to back down from its nuclear weapons program. It was costly, and took ages, but in the end, international pressure and finanical aid worked. But I doubt it would work with Iran.

    David+,
I agree whole heartedly. Israel has been incredibly patient, but there comes a time when the patience comes to an end … even with God. There is no doubt in my mind that Iran will move forward with its hatred of the Jews and Israel, and will attempt to destroy them. The question is, what will our government do when that day comes?

    Well, this is very scary.

The first comment on that story says that “Iran will never attack Israel.Bomb or no bomb.” I fear this story is credible enough that he is wrong.

Should the Israeli Air Force care to attack Iran, it will probably be when the moon is dark.

There are only two new moons between the election and the inauguration: these are Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day: rather ironic.
