Parish-church and cathedral choirs are among the beneficiaries of the £438,955 awarded by the Cathedral Music Trust this year.
Among the 27 grants is a Church Choir Award of £8,655 to establish a junior training choir at Lancaster Priory as an “inclusive, high-quality pathway to choristership”; £4,000 to provide singing tuition to choristers at Kendal Parish Church; £3,800 to launch a new junior choir at Holy Trinity, Stratford upon Avon; and £3,700 to enable Halifax Minster to launch a schools singing programme.
Twelve Anglican cathedrals in England and Wales have received awards, several of which will support the salaries of musicians; these include assistant directors of music at Truro, Chelmsford, and Wakefield, and lay clerks at Bradford, Newcastle, and Coventry. Llandaff Cathedral was awarded £22,350 to provide vocal coaching and theory tuition for cathedral choristers, and targeted vocal development for back row singers.
