At Los Angeles Convention Episcopalians say no to ban on noncelibate gay bishops

The most vocal statement against the resolution came from the Rev. Roberts Smith, rector of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Riverside.

The resolution states that the moratorium violates church canons, which prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

Smith said he agreed with the canons, but he said the moratorium correctly barred from the office of bishop people in same-sex relationships.

“What the Scriptures consistently condemn is homosexual sex, the practice of homosexual sex,” Smith said. “If you read the Scriptures, you’ll see it there again and again. It’s not a matter of orientation. It’s a matter of practice.”

St. Michael’s illustrates how the debate over homosexuality has caused deep fissures in the denomination.

I think that more signficantly Mr “Not in my diocese” Bruno has approved a blessing ceremony for homosexuals according to Ms Russell’s blog. Wonderful clarity.

It is hard for me not to hold Rowan Williams in very much un-Christian disdain for these all too predictable developments. +Tom Wright had assured us that his friend would send out pre-Lambeth letters stating that acceptance of Lambeth invitations was an agreement to work within Windsor. This was changed to pre-Lambeth phone calls (don’t want a paper trail). Was Bruno’s line busy? Did he refuse to take the call? (“Tell him I’m in the shower.”)

Instead the revisionists get a pass to carry on.

By the way, wasn’t Rowan suppose to name members of the [strike]Panel of Reference[/strike] Pastoral Forum by the end of October? How pathetic. Don’t talk to me about complex personalities.

Hmmm…Episcopalians…Episcopalians…yeah, didn’t they used to be a Church a long time ago?

“God didn’t put gays and lesbians here to be chastised and criticized and shut out from being leaders,” Kurr said.

Kurr’s logic and politicization of Christianity lead to accepting/tolerating everything that is human. While God put us all here, we know that he does not approve of every choice which His human creatures make. The Bible does not approve homoxexual practice.

Kurr is further off base to intimate that the orthodox are (gratuitously) chastizing, criticizing and shutting out gays. Nope, we combat the effort of the homosexualists to normalize and spread homosexual behavior thoughout our churches, popular media and to our children and grandchildren. The issue turns on the preservation of the faith and the family. At least, that is why I left five years ago when it became clear (to me) that TEC could no longer keep practicing homosexuals from leadership positions and, consequently, keep out of it’s teaching the notion (per Kurr) that homosexual practice is compatible with scripture.

It would seem that proponents of this resolution are saying is that gays are incapable of self control adequate to remain celibate.

Here is the article where LA is the New New Westminster:

Some of the other dioceses in Canada were holding back. Don’t see why they need to now. The moratoria are toast.
