The former Prime Minister is said to have given a “dynamite” interview about his religious beliefs, how they influenced his politics and why he decided to leave the Church of England and convert to Catholicism.
The 10-minute discourse will be screened on this Sunday’s BBC One programme Christmas Voices, which is presented by the singer Lesley Garrett.
I hope Mr. Blair’s support for abortion “rights” is brought up. I’d be interested to see if he crossed his fingers when he Poped.
Any second thoughts about his choice for Archbishop of Canterbury?
Perhaps that was covered in his first confession, Chris.
#3 I would think and hope so, Paula. However, Mr. (and Mrs.) Blair’s public support of positions contrary to Catholic teaching is well documented and while I respect his right to privacy, it would be a great boost to the pro-life community worldwide if he discussed his change of heart.
LOL, it took a “10-minute discourse” for him to say, “My wife insisted!”? He should have pushed her to become an Anglican, seeing as their views on social issues are far less of an issue in the C of E.
I can say with full confidence we Catholics have enough home grown dissenters we hardly need to import them. Perhaps the good Cardinal thought there was some sort of deadline to meet?
Unless one is able to say they fully believe in the teachings of the Catholic Church they should not become or in many cases remain Catholic. And if one has publicly stated positions that are contrary to those teachings they should have the personal integrity to publicly say they were in error and no longer hold those views.
Unfortunately the Blairs are exactly the sort of Catholic Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor and his type want to see in the Church. Unfortunately for the Church, and for the converts too, though they don’t know it. Fortunately the current Cardinal is out soon, may the Lord send England an orthodox replacement.
