Fireworks as the world welcomes 2009

    Towards the end of the video, in New York City’s Times Square, the “older couple” kissing, without the big blue hats, were US Senator, soon the be US Secretary of State, Hilary, and former US President Bill Clinton.

    Actually I thought the Hong Kong display was far and away the most awesome. Although I was baffled that we had Hong Kong before Tokyo, when Tokyo being much further East is in fact an hour ahead of Hong Kong. Does the BBC have a shaky grasp of geography?

    I was surprised to find a lump in my throat on hearing Big Ben. Goodness how evocative that sound is to us Brits.
