Indeed the pilot did a wonderful job. But remember, good experienced pilots are well trained in how to handle emergencies such as this. When I worked for Bell helicopter in Iran we had many emergencies while flying with student pilots. Crashes and near misses, engine failures and sudden low visibility due to dust were responded to almost by second nature.

I don’t say that to detract from what the pilot accomplished. He deserves praise for his nerves of steel and quick response.
What I particularly enjoy about Mr. Sullenberger is that he is 57 and still at the top of his game.
