    Or: ‘not Lord at all unless He is Lord of all.’

  2. DonGander says:

    And that is a lifetime, and daily, task.

    Jesus turned to the multitudes following Him, and ask;
    (Luk 6:46) “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”

  4. Sidney says:

    Well, I think this is the content of Jesus’ challenge to the rich man to give away everything he owned. The guy didn’t do it. Nor do the rest of us.

    I think if we’re all honest we’ll admit that none of us has faith strong enough to make Jesus the top priority. And frankly, that probably makes us reasonable. It’s not at all clear that faith this strong is a good thing.

    Sidney,

    Can you clarify your 2nd comment? I’m afraid I don’t know why I should be concerned with having a “reasonable” amount of faith or why the kind of faith Lewis wrote of is a bad thing.

  6. ember says:

    “The good Christian should beware the mathematician and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of hell.”

    #5. Sorry, I see why you were confused. By faith ‘this’ strong, I meant not to refer to ‘reasonable’ faith (not that I know what that is) but to something more extreme.

    Is marriage putting personal happiness before Christ? St. Paul seems to suggest that.

    #6. I don’t understand the purpose of your comment. Please explain. Thanks…

    Can you provide a source for this comment? It’s pithy and I’d love to quote it in sermons of my own. Thanks!
