Another Frank Lockwood article on the Northern Michigan Episcopal Election Consent Process

But others decried the largely Internet-driven campaign to challenge Thew Forrester’s fitness, warning that future bishop-elects will face the kind of scrutiny previously reserved for Supreme Court nominees.

Retired Bishop of Eastern Oregon Rustin Kimsey, in an April interview, said today’s Episcopal Church is more alarmed by theological innovation than it was decades ago.

“At least some bishops are feeling that their primary call is to protect the faith from error. I think that’s always a dangerous place to be,” Kimsey said.

Real bishops do protect the Faith delivered. All others are imposters. Check out the Ordinal 1549 forward for Anglicans per se. It goes all the way back to the New Testament witness, too.

I read somewhere that part of being a shepherd is having to keep the sheep fold clean.

I heard somewhere else that one jobs of the clergy is to clean the dirty laundry of the laity.

    It can get VERY dirty.

According the the Church Fathers, Irenaeus for example, that was their primary function. Read “Against Heresies”

Bishop Kimsey was ordained priest in 1960 one imagines using the 1928 Rite. So far from being a “dangerous place to be” as he is now quoted as saying, he has himself vowed to “banish and drive away from the Church all erroneous and strange doctrines”.

[blockquote]Will you be ready, with all faithful diligence, to banish and drive away from the Church all erroneous and strange doctrines contrary to God’s Word; and to use both public and private monitions and exhortations, as well to the sick as to the whole, within your Cures, as need shall require, and occasion shall be given?
Answer. I will, the Lord being my helper.[/blockquote]

lol. Thank you Bishop Kimsey, I needed a good chortle today.

I continue to be fascinated by how much ink Lockwood and the AR-DG are giving this. Does anyone know him, or why he is so closely following this (I ask as an outsider, who knows very little about Arkansas).

Um, Bishop Kimsey? From what I read of the Apostolic Fathers and the Book of Common Prayer, the primary call of a bishop is to *GUARD THE FAITH, UNITY, AND DISCIPLINE* of the Church. It is not to innovate or play with the faith of the Church. It is to GUARD it – to protect the flock of Christ from error and to hand on to the next generation what was handed to you.

Perhaps someone should call for his resignation for violating his ordination vows???
Yeah – like that would happen. Most the HOB wouldn’t know The Faith to guard if it bit them in the cassock.

Most of the people on those Standing Committees haven’t even heard of the internet
