This was the sweetest thing I have seen in awhile. Pure pleasure to watch.

  2. Eastern Anglican says:

I am becoming way too sentimental. My little girl is now thirteen. Thank you.

I am such a sucker for the feel-good story – now I must go re-apply my mascara for the day!

    Kendall,

Thanks so much for posting this!!! My daughter just started her senior year of high school, and for the first time in 13 years I’m not driving her to school every day – she’s doing it herself. This brought back some great memories of the days when she was 3 years old, and just as cute (and impish!) as the little girl in the video – a much needed salve for the soul just now.

Dad should get an award for his response. It would have been so easy to have shown anger somehow to his little girl for blowing his big moment (since he had been trying for that for decades). Instead, he did what all parents of small children SHOULD do: he put aside his own desires to make sure she knew she was loved. Awesome! Kendall, can you bookmark this to replay every Father’s Day? It’s a timeless example of what it is to be a good dad.

    What a precious moment!

  7. Passing By says:

In loving memory of my father, a lifelong Phillies fan, who took this/his daughter to many games. But, at least I never threw back his foul ball!! 🙂

And I hope he looked down on that scene from the Kingdom, because I know he’s ROTFL up there, big time.

    I love you, Dad.

That should be shown every Father’s Day and used as an antidote to every ghastly story of parental neglect or violence. That man’s Warholian moment may actually last for a very long time.

    Marvelous. Simply marvelous.

I dont get this….maybe it is an American thing. Dad catches ball – little girl throws it and they have a cuddle…so what?

  11. Words Matter says:

Catching a ball in the stands is a Big Deal and the ball becomes a trophy. If you want to get all psychological about it, I suppose it feeds the man’s fantasy of being a big league player. Anyway, like many folks, this man had wanted to get one his whole life. So he gets the prize, and his daughter throws it back.

No. 10: You may be joking with us, but it you are unfamiliar with the game, No. 11 explains it. I am an avid baseball fan and have been attending Major League games for more than half a century. I have never caught a foul ball. It is a very big deal for baseball fans and a statistically rare event. In this clip, the father was an enthusiastic fan of the home team and had never caught a foul ball. He made a splendid, somewhat dangerous catch and was elated. He showed the ball to his little daughter, who promptly tosses the ball to the fans in the deck below. The father could go to another 200 games and never get another catch. His hug for the little girl sums up a valuable life as a parent better than a thousand volumes on child-rearing. But I must confess that, if one is not steeped in baseball lore, the layers of meaning are probably not obvious.
