I like that it starts on Nov. 29. Now, that’s a REAL Advent calendar!

2. AnglicanCasuist says:

Isn’t that nice.

3. Pageantmaster Ù† says:

You should see the Church of England “Advent” Calendar – they have wheeled out all the wackos for it:

No mention of Christ of course.

4. Br_er Rabbit says:

I really like the close harmony on the music selection for November 3.

5. Archer_of_the_Forest says:

That is a pretty innovative website idea for a church. I really like that.

6. Br_er Rabbit says:

And it sure beats out Pageantmaster’s “Green Bags” video for the third.

7. Bishop Daniel Martins says:

I know I’m a bit of a grinch on things like this, but, beautiful as it is (as we would expect from its deep-pocket source), it isn’t really an Advent calendar–it’s a pre-Christmas calendar. Note the music that plays when you follow the instruction to “flip for scripture.” Advent has an integrity of its own that is lost when we just use the word to spiritualize our celebration of the Christmas before-the-fact.

Quite frankly I find them both kind of depressing: no note of anticipation of the Savior’s birth, not even some happy Christmas kind of thoughts!
Not for me, I’m afraid.
An Advent Calendar is meant (I think) to put us into a mood of anticipation of something WONDERFUL! The Coming Christ Child. My heart is NOT “stirred up” by this.

Stunningly beautiful, a great technical achievement. I’ve little doubt it will appeal greatly to many. I like the sharing of vignettes as the ‘surprise’ opened each day. I like that one can’t peek ahead. However, being a great lover of Advent, some of the music misses the mark for me, too, though it is quite beautiful.

10. montanan says:

I should have said, “a great creative and technical achievement.”

I’m with Father Martins.

gun violence prevention on 12/1, hopelessly connected to a liberal political agenda…:(

13. flaanglican says:

Cool website but empty of anything about the anticipation of Christ.

14. magnolia says:

chris, i am sure that in the light of the fort hood and countless other random gun killings, you didn’t see how your statement could be interpreted. i am sure you are not against gun violence prevention and i don’t honestly know if the families who are without their loved ones this Christmas because of gun violence thinks that is a liberal political agenda, but i know i wouldn’t.

I am against criminal violence of any kind. To single out “gun violence” is simply to reveal ones liberal political agenda. Guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens are used as often to prevent criminal violence as they are used in perpetrating it.
