BBC–Differences remain between Israel and US – White House

Differences remain between Israel and the US, following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington, the White House has said.

President Obama urged the Israeli PM to take steps to build confidence in the peace process, during “honest” talks on Tuesday, said spokesman Robert Gibbs.

Mr Gibbs also said the US was seeking “clarification” of the latest plans to build homes in occupied East Jerusalem.

Mr Netanyahu’s trip came amid the worst crisis in US-Israeli ties for decades.

In a person who has truly been born again, there is a noticable change in that person’s life. He is not the same person. His life is transformed day after day, year after year, edging toward the person who reflects Christ.

Our president has stated publicly, when pressed, that he was a Christian. Without making any judgment at all, I only note the following:

He has only gone to church twice in the year he has been president.

He did away with the nation day of prayer so to not offend anyone.

He is treating Israel as an enemy.

Elections have consequences. Sometimes big ones. What I do not understand, is that Mr. Obama went to a church where the pastor used the Lord’s name in vein. This is not like a 7 deadly sin, or a sin pointed out on the Sermon on the Mount. This is in direct opposition of one of the BIG TEN.

His mentor in Hawaii was a self proclaimed communist. That means I am not calling the mentor a communist, he proclaimed it upon himself.

I am not a “birther”, because it does not matter now. But I do not understand why all the controversy. One’s birth certificate should be real easy to show.

Bottom line is this: A man who calls himself a Christian—–and who does not support Israel, is simply telling a lie somewhere. A Christian KNOWS that the Israelies are God’s own chosen people. Out of respect for our Father God, a Christian will support Israel.

Something is way way out of whack here.

Nonsense; the Church, “the Israel of God,” has superseded “Israel after the Flesh” as God’s people. Israelis today are no more “God’s chosen people” than the Vietnamese or the Canadians — or Americans.

Speaking of “out of whack”, I believe I read that about 80 percent of Muslims AND Jews voted for him in 2008. What am I missing? Statmann

I am a reader and supporter of this blog and Stand Firm as well and I do not support Israel. They are a really poor ally. While claiming to be our ally and thumbing their nose at our nuclear non proliferation efforts, they developed a nuclear weapons program which they still refuse to acknowledge. While our ally, they accept our foreign aid, our munitions, our security guarantees and our protection from the world in the United Nations while they do what they please with the Palestinians. They lobby our President and our Legislators mercilessly to maintain our support. As long as we remain their ally, we are linked to whatever outrageous things they decide to do whether taking Palestinian land, abusing Palestinians with cluster bombs, white phosphorous munitions or armored caterpiller tractors or attacking their neighbors and we cannot separate ourselves from from what they do. So basically, they are in charge in the relationship. This needs to change and I write my elected representatives about this often.

I don’t know, Dr. Tighe – God made promises to the nation of Israel and I think those are still in place – He is faithful. Of course, that doesn’t mean that whatever the modern state of Israel does is always correct – we need to be discerning about that.

As Tom Friedman said about the US/Israel relationship: “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk.” He then pointed out that Israel’s recent behavior falls within that rubric and that the US would be a poor friend indeed not to say it bluntly when it happens.

Do you think Israel developed those weapons by themselves?
