When I was young, the Second World War was just recent history. In a class project for a History calendar I created a strong graphic for the invasion of the Low Countries by Nazi Germany in 1940. The invasion and the bombing of England that day was the end of any hope that negotiations and treaties would halt the aggression and conflict. The date was May 10 and as a result of that class project, for the rest of my life I’ve remembered the date. To forget when something happened is a step towards forgetting that it happened in history and is real.
