A Prayer for the Feast Day of Basil the Great

Almighty God, who hast revealed to thy Church thine eternal Being of glorious majesty and perfect love as one God in Trinity of Persons: Give us grace that, like thy bishop Basil of Caesarea, we may continue steadfast in the confession of this faith, and constant in our worship of thee, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; who livest and reignest for ever and ever.

  1. New Reformation Advocate says:

It’s worth noting that, among his other claims to fame, ++Basil the Great wrote what Episcopalians know as Eucharistic Prayer D, the longest and grandest of the four options in Rite II of the 1979 BCP.

His long treatise On the Holy Spirit is also a crucial contribution to the doctrine of the Trinity, and especially the much-neglected doctrine of the Holy Spirit.
