Oliver Thomas–Why do we need religion?

Religion makes us want to live.

Viktor Frankl’s revealing research in the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz led him to a startling conclusion. It was not the youngest, strongest or even smartest inmates who tended to survive. It was those who had found meaning in their lives. People, it turns out, need a reason to live.

  1. Athanasius Returns says:

The question is better put, “Why do we need the LORD?

AR, when I saw the title of this post, my immediate reaction was “We don’t need religion. We need Jesus.”

Indeed. It seems like in these times, many people are perfectly happy with their “reason to live” being buying the next Apple product. It’s all about the toys, sigh.

And what’s even sadder is that you’d expect great contributions to the world of art, music, literature, and global understanding emanating from these wonders of invention, information and communication. That’s not happening. Every schmuck with a Smart Phone, Facebook page, and Twitter account seems to think that everyone else is interested in his vacation pictures, her trips to the grocery store, and, sordidly, their body parts. Humankind is wallowing in the insipid and is increasingly forgoing the need for a Savior.

    These are bizarre times.

  4. Boniface says:

Welcome to the Dark Ages. Bourgeoisie Christianity is dead. Naked power and death rule western civilization. Christianity will responsed with the power of light and love. But socially approved christianity is gone.
