The Strange Case of the Disappearing Anglican Primates Meeting Photos

Last night there were five photographs linked here under this title:

Some Images From The 18th Primates’
Meeting Of The Anglican Communion,
Emmaus Retreat And Conference Centre,
Swords, Co Dublin.

But today they are no longer there–what happened?

The fact that the photos were there and are now gone immediately raises the question as to why they are no longer published.
What was it in these pictures that certain people in authority didn’t want us to see?

The Google Cache clearly shows the pictures were there:
    [url=http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?sclient=psy&hl=en&site;=&source=hp&q=cache:http://ireland.anglican.org/index.php?do=news&newsid=3422&aq=f&aqi;=&aql;=&oq;=%5Dcache%5B/url%5D

Thinking perhaps there had been an edit to the page which would have resulted in a new URL, I looked at the home page and under the news and press release links, but, it does seem the pictures are nowhere to be found tonight except in the cache from yesterday.

#1, you ask the same question I’m asking.

One guess: perhaps someone realized it might be embarrassing to publish the photos of regional groupings such as those of primates from the Americas and the British Isles. A photo of the African Primates (given the absence of so many) would be rather ludicrous. Maybe someone realized that it wasn’t such a good idea to publish those pix of the Global North Primates when the Global South primates are largely missing???

    As I say, just a guess…

It looks like a few of these photos are now posted at ACNS:
    http://www.anglicancommunion.org/communion/primates/photos/index.cfm

The photo of the organizers is not there, however. So maybe someone realized how silly it looked to have 15 organizers for a meeting of 23 Primates.

I want to know what happened to the picture of Archbishop Rufus T. Firefly of Freedonia!

Someone just PMed me that my link in #2 to the Google cache doesn’t work. Try pasting this into your google search box. It works for me:

From what I understand, you see the JFK assassin in the background as well as the contents of Area 51 😉

  8. dwstroudmd+ says:

The lack of diversity, no doubt. Plus the JFK assassin and Area 51 contents, BfT19. On the whole, the former embarrassment remains undefiled.

  9. Sarah says:

I’m with Karen B — I think they didn’t want the meeting organizer’s photo up — and I can understand why, considering the numbers.

  10. MichaelA says:

    FIFTEEN organisers? How pathetic!

No doubt this is a very good reason why most orthodox primates did not bother to turn up. THEY don’t need organisers.

It is also striking how direct, firm, godly and relevant the pronouncements of the Orthodox primates are (see e.g. communiques from recent CAPA and Global South meetings), compared with the spiritual anemia of pronouncement from this primates meeting!

Elementary, my dear Canon Harmon, elementary.

    Every picture tells a story.
