Five Iranian house church Christians were behind bars Wednesday, March 15, after being sentenced to one year imprisonment on charges of “crimes against the Islamic order” and there were reports that Iranian authorities have been burning Bibles.
Pastor Behrouz Sadegh-Khandjani, Mehdi Furutan, Mohammad Beliad, Parviz Khalaj and Nazly Beliad, who are members of the Church of Iran house church movement, were found guilty by the Revolutionary Court in Shiraz, according to trial observers. Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), an advocacy group closely monitoring the case, said the have 20 days to appeal the sentence.
How come our media isn’t going hysterical about the burning of hundreds of Bibles, but went bezerk over a Christiuan going to burn one Koran. Yes, the minister is American and the burning was to take place here. But isn’t the media supposed to cover stories a lot of people might be interested in. Considering that about 80% of Americans are Christian–at least in name–you’d think there would be an interest factor in a Bible burning story among viewers and readers of news.
deaconjohn; You have to first assume that the mainstream media here in the US even cares about the Bible. From what I have seen lately, that would be a streach of imagination. They do not seem to care what most of the country thinks or they just don’t care. Even old standbys like Better Homes and Garden have eaten the poisoned fruit and proudly publish articles about how a gay “couple” decorate for Christmas. Isn’t gay couple and Christmas an oxymoron?
#2–Maybe that is why so much print media and some TV network news is going the way of the DODO bird. They do everything possible to reach and please 2% of the population while ignoring or insulting 80% of the population. Great marketing strategy!! Especially when today people have so many alternatives to choose from –like the internet (where, for the first time in a recent poll a majority of people now claim they get their news) or cable news stations that are not subservient to the liberal media echo chamber.
