Almighty and everlasting God, who didst enkindle the flame of thy love in the heart of thy holy martyr Bernard Mizeki: Grant to us, thy humble servants, a like faith and power of love, that we who rejoice in his triumph may profit by his example; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
From the Prayer Diary of the Diocese of Hereford today:
“Bernard Mizeki, Apostle of the MaShona d,1896 We pray that we might witness to the faith wherever we find ourselves…”

His shrine is near Mtoko and for many decades now a place of pilgrimage for Anglicans in Zimbabwe and before that, Rhodesia. Interestingly in the same region is the shrine of John Bradburne, who lived with and cared for the lepers at Mtemwa until he was gunned down on a lonely road by Mugabe’s guerillas in their war against Ian Smith’s government.
Thank you for posting this, Canon Harmon and Mr Tee.
I did not know about either Mizeki or Bradburne. Its good to learn about the martyrs of our communion.
