I remember the exact moment I realized that I was not going to win the recent $650 million lottery jackpot. It was when I heard a professor of mathematics on TV explain that the odds of winning were more than 1000 times worse than the odds of the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series… every year for the next ten years. I almost tore up my $1.00 ticket right then.

First reaction: Typical Cubs. But, actually, they usually swoon in August, so maybe this is truly groundbreaking?
