The Archbishop of Canterbury hosts a Muslim-Christian gathering

Muslim and Christian scholars are to gather in Singapore next week at the invitation of the Archbishop of Canterbury. On the agenda will issues including gender and diversity issues.

The meeting is the latest ”˜Building Bridges’ exercise, the sixth in the annual series, which will bring together over 30 scholars to examine issues of current interest from a religious perspective.

Hosted by the National University of Singapore, it will consider how the respective religions approach such matters as care and responsibility for the environment. As previously, the Seminar will consist of the presentation of papers in public and separate private sessions for the participants.

ABC Williams injects himself into Anglicanism = strife and turmoil.

ABC Williams injects himself into Muslim relations = ????????????

I actually fear this situation. I say it is just my biases and -fobias but Williams techniques just don’t work. And how is Williams going to deal with Muslim views on Homosexuality?

I’m outa here – my fears now greater.

He can complain about Jews and Israel all he wants over there.

ABC Williams is not “injecting himself” into Muslim relations. He has been the organizer and host of a Christian-Muslim dialogue for several years now. The meeting in Singapore is just the latest; I know several of the Muslim scholars and imams who attended the Bulding Bridges meeting in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2005 (where I was living in the months before). They spoke with great respect of the ABC, one calling him one of the best theologians he has read. That conference was jointly sponsored by the Grand Mufti, the Roman Catholic Archbishop, and the Serbian Orthodox Metropolitan. I trust that there will be similar local sponsorship in Singapore. In the midst of so much tension and polemic among persons in the different faith communities, these meetings are important. Hats off to the ABC for undertaking this venture. Rather than being fearful (a tone I hear so often on this blog), we should be exercising the Christian virtue of hope and praying for a successful conference.

    Let’s see.
Rowan goes out of his way to bash “imperialist” America.
Rowan goes out of his way for Muslim-Christian relations.
Rowan does little to nothing to provide a place for orthodox American Anglicans.

It is the Christians of Pakistan, Malaysia and Indonesia who are frequently fearful, often for their lives. Pakistani Christians are often abused and murdered. Malaysian Christians who can move to Australia are doing so. Conflict runs through Ambon, the Moluccas and elsewhere. Why do you think this is?

What a pity he can’t find the time to meet with his own primates.

More “World Religion”. Now the Bishop is in on it. The veil is off.
You all need to be up to speed on this, because it is the goal of TEC to be the head of the world religion. One god for all…
Here is a link, but you must Google “Episcopal, Swing, World Religion” and see for yourself.
