Alan Haley Analyzes the Opening Addresses of the PB and the HOD Pres. at Gen. Con. 2012

Right at the outset, we are given two completely disparate views on what we are there for: first, to take advantage of a nearby baseball game (to which, like the prodigal son’s banquet, we may always “arrive late”), and to undergo a “tune-up”, to “synchronize our heartbeat with God’s.” One doesn’t know whether one has wandered into a sports bar, or the doctor’s office.

From there on, the two ships which are passing in the night continue their respective courses, each oblivious to, and unaware of, the other as something to be reckoned with.

Note POHOD’s invocation of John Locke, whose religious convictions at best were Arian. His disciple, Bishop Hoadly insisted that the church was a human construct, that the sacraments were emotive memorials, that the church had no role in teaching doctrine, the clergy had no ontological reality other than that enjoyed by all humans, but that individuals were to be guided solely by enlightened conscience.

Search out those you have wounded or who have wounded you – seek them out and let the grudges go – there isn’t much life in hanging on to them.

Great! I am sure the deputies from the few conservative dioceses still left in TEC will be happy to accept any apology (from +KJS or any other progressive) that is a sign of true repentance and metanoia. I am sure those tables will be mobbed. I can’t wait to see pics from John Burwell+ showing the long lines at the South Carolina deputation’s table of all the progressives who are there to apologize. I really am looking forward to those pics [yes I realize that this has essentially zero chance of actually happening but hey it makes for a good read, doesn’t it?? ;- ) ]

While +KJS is at it, I suggest she take her own advice and settle a few grudges and offer her apologies to those bishop and clergy who have had Title IV complaints against them. The list is growing but I think that would be 11 perhaps 12. I know many of them are there so get to work Bishop Katherine!!

My goodness, one of them actually mentioned the elephant in the room!
