There *are* some things Mitt can say to fix the problem. But he won’t. Examples:
(1)I don’t believe (or don’t take very seriously) some of the official doctrine of my church.
(2) I am totally prepared to do things opposite to what I believe the leadership of my church would want.
(3) The leadership of my church has done some things in its history that it should not have. I repudiate these things. Those things are not part of who I am today.
(4) Like a number of Americans, I do not approve of some of the things the LDS church does today and I hope the church leadership changes those policies sometime.
JFK could say those things. Mitt cannot. The fact that he won’t will tell Americans all they need to know.
That’s what happens when you join a cult!
