Bill Atwood: Myths some Anglican Leaders who Should Know Better still try to Live By

1. Everything is fine.
Hard as it is to believe, there are still people who are clinging to this fantasy. It is utterly false, but surprisingly widely held. It’s sort of like people on the Titanic complimenting the band.

2. Closely linked with #1 is myth #2: It is the responsibility of The Episcopal Church to fix things in the US. One of the “moderate” primates said this to me recently. I asked him, “Given that the General Convention, the House of Bishops, the Presiding Bishop, and the House of Bishops have all indicated that they have no intention of changing course, why on earth would you hold out hope that the Episcopal Church is really going to change course and come in line with Biblical faith?” He replied, “Because the alternative is unthinkable.”

Now entering “Unthinkable….”

  1. Sidney says:

A recent poll showed that only 16% of young people in the US under 18 view Christianity as a positive force in the world.

That’s because the vast majority of Christians have their heads in the sand regarding modern science. It has nothing to do with gay bishops. My coworkers will not be a part of Christianity because they just think Christian are a bunch of idiots who don’t believe in evolution and an earth that is billions of years old.

  2. Milton says:

Absolutely read the whole piece! A great summary of DeNile River down which TEC would like to sell all who have not left, but still hold to the faith given once for all to the disciples. (See Jude and Luke’s last chapter)

Oh dear, Sidney! The age of the earth, let alone the universe, is probably impossible to determine with any accuracy with any means available to us in the foreseeable future. But there is no real evidence whatsoever for Darwinistic macro-evolution that produces entirely new species versus micro-evolution that produces only adaptatons to a particular environment within the recognizable definition of the parent species. No transitional forms. No “hopeful monsters”. Like still begets like, and always will. Some of the relics and dogma of evolution were outright fakes, still taught as fact. Remember Piltdown Man? A deliberate fake. Those drawings of embryos that “proved” that “Ontogeny recapitulates philogeny”? Wishful thinking in Haeckel’s drawings. Real human embryos do not ever develop gill slits that develop into lungs. Drawings can do anything you like, just watch a cartoon show sometime, and see if you want to rest your learned credentials on one of those. As for me, I’ll trust the word of the One who revealed to Job that the earth was round and that He “hangeth the earth on nothing” in empty space, not on the backs of elephants. Your coworkers are simply throwing up smokescreens to avoid ever dealing honestly with the truth claims of Jesus and of Christianity. If you really believe Christian doctrine, educate yourself with the truth and then present it to your coworkers, so they will not ask you in anguish when it is too late why you never told them the truth about the Truth, Jesus Christ.

+Bill Atwood probably knows the whole AC better than anyone alive, including even the ABC. He’s been in regular contact with Global South leaders for many years. Like the old E. F. Hutton commercial goes, when he speaks, people listen, and rightly so.

Well, I sure hope people listen to his 7 modern myths about the AC and the crisis we’re in. This is vintage Bill Atwood stuff. Fantastic. Just fantastic. This short summary of the state of affairs should be disseminated as widely as possible. Bravo, +Atwood!
