BBC's Reporting Religion offers two Perspectives on GAFCON

Is this finally the end for the Anglican Communion worldwide? We hear from the Archbishop of Sydney, Peter Jensen, one of the leaders of a breakaway conference for conservative Anglicans starting in Jerusalem this weekend. We also hear from Bishop Mouneer Anis of Egypt, who thinks this conference comes at the wrong place and the wrong time.

Listen to it all (about 14 minutes).

Worthwhile listening to Mouneer Anis in this interview.

BBC:”Do you think your voice complaining about the actions of the American church will be heard there [Lambeth]?”
Anis: “Well, I will speak up, I share my heart all the time. So I will do my best. But I don’t believe in withdrawal ”

  2. Observing says:

    And also
[blockquote] BBC: How disappointed are you then that Archbishop Akinola and the rest of the team organizing GAFCON ignored you?
Anis: I am not disappointed.(laughs) They have a different view and I respect their view. I share their frustration because we have a crisis in the Anglican Communion. [/blockquote]

I would ask Bishop Anis how he would resolve the impasse within the Communion, given the fact that both sides are intractable in their positions, and won’t give an inch. Talking hasn’t worked, so what else would he have us do?
