Ten-time Oscar nominee Paul Newman, creator of iconic movie anti-heroes in “The Hustler,” “Cool Hand Luke” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” has died after a battle with cancer.
The 83-year-old screen legend with the piercing blue eyes died Friday at his farmhouse near Westport, Conn., said publicist Jeff Sanderson. He was surrounded by his family and close friends.
Actor,husband,father,humanitarian. A man driven by giving those with so little hope an opportunity for a better life. This is a great loss and it saddens me deeply. My heartfelt prayers go out to his extended family.

My favorite movie of all time has been, still is, and probably always will be “Cool Hand Luke.”
I was once on a ship that refused to trade our copy of Cool Hand Luke to any other ship until we got an offer we couldn’t refuse: Real ice cream.
We watched that movie over and over for about three weeks.
RIP Luke.
A good life lived honestly. May he rest in peace.
It is always interesting to learn when news like this hits what the first things are which come to people’s minds.
For me, there were two:
–The scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with the music and the bicycle with Reford, Newman and Ross; and
–the end of The Sting with Newman and Redford
He will be greatly missed.
“The Sting” was an awesome movie, with a great ending twist! I have it on tape and watch it every once in a while. I think it’s my favorite of all Newman’s films.
Newman’s salad dressings and pasta sauce were far better then the other brands, and competitively priced as well, plus you knew the proceeds would go to a good cause.
He will be missed.

He was at Kenyon College when my father was there. He (and Jonathan Winters) had come back from WW II and was a bit older. Wife of strong character and a good marriage. May he rest in peace.
Paul Newman is truly among the Hollywood greats in immortality…..Wayne, Cagney, Stewart, Fonda, and we will miss him greatly. I will continue to contribute to his charities, and will keep on buying his sauces…..they’re great!
I have a memory of watching “The Sting” in Spanish in a theater in Peru when I was about 13 (during a trip to visit my grandmother. ) P.N. had world-wide appeal.

One of the few that went to Hollywood but never internalized its superficiality, not unlike a Charleton Heston. RIP, Paul.
