This is very good news indeed. And did you see when “Lidge dropped to his knees and threw his arms in the air” (NYT) — and later thanked God for the victory?
I don’t want to be nasty about this(well…yeah, I do) but Ryan Howard is from St. Louis, AKA the National League Vatican. Second most world titles after that New York team whose nickname I can’t recall.
Seriously, heartiest congratulations to the Phillies and their fans. I hope that Philadelphia businesses are not too badly affected by that massive “flu” outbreak that’s going to be phoned in tomorrow.
I lived in Philadelphia in the late 60’s (Richie Allen, Johnny Callison, Jim Bunning, Christ Short). I am a White Sox fan but I had a sense of joy for the Phillies fans as they finaly won one…. (Of course the conversation is all focused on the rain delay and the way it all played out) I am glad for Lidge. He proclaimed Jesus Christ and he showed class. He has been harassed about the Pujols home run unceasingly (like Pujols is some banjo hitter who never hits homers!). Any how it seemed like redemption. I wanted it to end with a “K” and it was perfect! Enjoy the ride Philadelphia!
If the Braves couldn’t be there, might as well be the Phillies (certainly not the Mets). And the Phillies do seem to have good guys on that team. Congrats to them.
(sigh…) …well, at least it was a National League (i.e. reasserter) team that won….
Well, since it couldn’t be the Cubs…
Next year in Chicago!

This is great for Philadelphia.

My grandfather-in-law is from Philadelphia. I shutter to call him, as I will never get off the phone if I bring up the World Series.
