The Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East will host the primates and moderators of the Anglican Communion for a February 1-5, 2009 meeting in Alexandria, Egypt.
In light of these dates and at the request of Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, the Episcopal Church’s Executive Council’s January meeting is being rescheduled one day earlier and will now begin on the morning of January 29 and end on January 31.
While an agenda for the Primates Meeting is still in its early stages, topics expected to be addressed include the proposed Anglican covenant, the Windsor Process, and international concerns, especially relating to the Millennium Development Goals. The meeting is expected to be preceded by a pilgrimage, the details of which have yet to be finalized.
Alexandria, known as the Pearl of the Mediterranean, is the second largest city in Egypt and the country’s main seaport. The Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East, under the leadership of President Bishop Mouneer Hanna Anis, includes four dioceses throughout Jerusalem, Iran, Egypt, Cyprus and the Gulf.
It looks like Rowan is attempting to scuttle the Primates Meeting with his “Indaba” process. He does not want anything to upset the little apple cart. He should stand up at this meeting and tell the dissident organization in the US and Canada to leave, they are no longer welcome in a Christian communion. But, we know that will never happen. He has shown where his beliefs lie, and it is not with the Christians of the world.
Rowan won’t be the only one at the meeting. It’ll be as or more interesting to hear the consensus opinions of the primates.
The ABC does not want anything done. That is the only way to hold the AC (more or less) together. The covenant ? iI is simply a Lucy Brown football. It looks promising (kind of) but at the end of the day all it offers is illusion and delay. Indeed, in this supreme hour of crisis the AC as a communion has done absolutely nothing.

Possible message: ECUSA is omnipresent; it’s arm is long.
Of course, there will be no ENS acknowledged consideration of the destruction of the ECUSA/TEC/GCC/EO-PAC organization and Anglican Communion perpetrated by the actions of GC2003 and subsequently. This account is certainly proof of the remark that “Denial is not just a river in Egypt.” Apparently at ENS it extends from the ABC’s office to 815 to the Middle East. Has anyone notified the cartographers and climatologists since it appears to have escaped the oceanographer’s notice?
Actually, good Br. Michael, it’s the nefarious and imperious Lucy van Pelt who always leaves Charlie Brown kicking at thin air. Must keep our history accurate and all, you know. 😉
Prediction:
1. GAFCON will recognize a new jurisdiction (but not Province) in North America later this year which will come under the oversight of the GAFCON primatial council.
2. The next Primate’s meetings will be inyabadabadooed. The primates will be split. A statement will be issued stating that some of the Primates recognize the new GAFCON North American jurisdiction, that some of the Primates don’t and are angry about it, that some of the Primates won’t accept the sexual moratoria, that opinion on the Covenant is mixed, and finally that everyone appreciates Rowan Williams.
3. GAFCON will then carry on winning other Global South primates to their cause. TEC and ACoC will continue their drive towards same-sex “marriage”. The litigation will continue.
Irenaeus, the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East has had that title for many many years, it has nothing to do with ECUSA/TEC. Bishop Mouneer is hardly a supporter of the new innovations in the TEC. He is certainly closer to Common Cause than TEC. James, I think your predictions are right on the mark.
