One comment on “The Archbishop in conversation with Professor Mona Siddiqui

  1. Jennie TCO says:

You are right, Kendall, there are some gems in this hour long piece. For those who have not listened, this is an interview of the Archbishop which is wide ranging with sparks of brilliance, humor, insight – right along side just one or two comments that don’t ring very well (his brief assessment of Lambeth, for instance).
I appreciated his response to why undertake interfaith conversations (Not a precise quote): We are living in a world where it is impossible to ignore your neighbor and there are good religious reasons to love one’s neighbor. And, if you are going to love your neighbor, there are good religious reasons for trying to understand your neighbor. Dialog is part of love of of neighbor. (and he did note the difficulty with that particular word)
This comment, too, – The main difference between Christians and Muslims is how we understand the question of the unity of God – for Christians , the unity of God is more like a chord than a single note (Christian understanding of God as Trinity vs rejection of Trinity by Islam and Judaism). For me, that one comment was worth the price of admission.
He was asked which of his three predecessors he identified with most closely – Anselm, Thos. Cranmer (“An academic who discovered he had to take decisions and I’ll say no more”), and Michael Ramsey
Lots of other good stuff. And, is it possible , Dr. Harmon, that you were present for this talk? I thought I heard someone with a distinctive laugh like yours near the end. If you weren’t there, you have a twin. Thanks for posting this.
