Exactly the sort of mindset which made possible the Wall Street

Reminds me of what my favorite golfer of the 1920s and 1930s once said: “I don’t want to be a millionaire, I just want to live like one.”

This reminds me of the Dilbert cartoon where the boss is talking with Wally about a reassignment. He says that he wants a job with unmeasurable goals that he could work from home. The boss says, “So you want to stay at home and have us mail you checks?” to which Wally replies, “Actually I was hoping for Direct Deposit.”

Where I work the opposite holds true: our chief supervisor holds everyone responsible, but micromanages to the point that no one but he has authority. During times when he’s not around it’s interesting to watch the people who have developed their management skills under his direction run in circles trying to discern what the boss would want them to do rather than working through an action plan.
