No need for ”˜flying bishop’ in Wales, says Archbishop

There is no need for a “Flying Bishop” for Welsh traditionalists, the Archbishop of Wales told members of the church’s Governing Body last week, as the pastoral care offered by the current bishop’s bench is sufficient to meet the needs of all Welsh Anglicans.

Responding to a question from a member of the Governing Body during is April 22 session in Llandudno, Dr. Barry Morgan said the bishops were offering “pastoral and sacramental care to every member of the Church in Wales, without exception.”

    Sure, Barry, I believe you.

The program of extermination ratchets up a notch. The bishops decide what will satisfy the consciences of those who object to their ministry. Like the cannibal telling his dinner that he should relish the excellence of the sauce.

A shame, really. I’d love to see a bishop on the back of a dragon. But that’s not Barry’s plan. What Barry really, really wants is a gay bishop for Wales. Can’t NH release Gene, pleeeze?
On present trends, of course, the Church of Wales is disappearing so fast that even the ambulant variety of bishop won’t be too much in demand in a few years’ time.

It’s the American model. Deja vu all over again.

It seems to me that the text really says “I’m an Archbishop, I am in charge, you have no place here – begone!” Really pastoral! Justice trumps doctrine and that is that. Who would want communion with this kind of tyrant.

But, then, Bishop, that is not the point, is it?
Can a bishop minister episcopally to all persons under their jurisdiction? Yes. Of course.
May they? The archbishop says they may.
Will they? There is plenty of evidence to show where some bishops have willed not to.
And some who wished they didn’t have to, and do so reluctantly.
It is playing a mindgame to answer at the archbishop has without taking into consideration what the true meaning of the request is all about.
It is about trust, archbishop. Send us a bishop, Archbishop, whom we can trust; not one you can trust to simply make the trip to the congregation on Sunday morning.
