Funny that it’s always these sorts of things that get chopped when the chips are down. It’s never the fur-bearing trout pilot project that’s Assemblyman Porkberger’s pet project.

May 19 is just around the corner, Arnie. Get ready to do more than that.

Here come the scare tactics again! Every time the California state government wants to increase taxes, they pull out the old canard – “we’ll have to let firefighters go, and teachers, and health care!” etc., etc., etc. Why not reduce benefits to illegal aliens? No one’s buying it anymore. In the last five years, the California state government has DOUBLED in size – with no discernible difference in state resources or benefits to state residents. I say reduce the government to its size five years ago, and then we’ll talk about increasing taxes. We already have among the highest state sales tax, fuel tax, state income tax, etc. People are leaving in droves, so soon the only ones left will be the very rich and the very poor (hey – sounds like Mexico, doesn’t it?)

Is anyone else aware of John Sweeney’s use of the federal government to make sure the salaries of his public employee members are not diminished as California does its cordless bungee jump into insolvency?

I’ve heard other scare tactics like laying off teachers/policeman/fire fighters, etc., but threatening to release prisoners…that’s a new one on me. Nothing like the thought of Hannibal Lecter walking down main street to get people behind finance bills.

That’s pretty low in my opinion, and a recipe for a recall as that is an option in California. But then, I guess he’s safe because they apparently don’t have enough money to fund a recall vote.

  5. Phil says:

The pathology of the Left is that they will never admit their approach to policy doesn’t work. They will literally bankrupt California and drive the state into the ground rather than change leadership and sacrifice their precious programs.

I don’t know if I’d blame to Left solely on this. I mean the Governator is a Republican.

  7. Harvey says:

#2 I agree with you 100%. If we lay off so many teachers guards, etc., etc., I think it is time to move out some of the higher salaried guys also. I bet this would help too!! Nuf said!!!

It’s useful at this juncture to remind the reader that Nobel economist FA Hayek dedicated his master work, “The Road to Serfdom,” to “Socialists of all parties.”

Just because Arnie ran as a Republican doesn’t mean he hasn’t governed as a port-sider.

  9. Intercessor says:

Give all those Gov’t workers picks and shovels to build water storage as our farmers and families who depend depend on the crops to feed their families are starved off the lands. No new water storage for over 35 years…population has doubled. State legislators hold the people hostage in budget hoaxes. Arnie, I and millions of others plan to give you a message at the polls next week!

Actually AOTHF Arnold is a Kennedy thinly disguised as a Republican.

Have you EVER seen one of these articals taht say:

(We) may be forced to release 40,000 exectives or lay off 51,000 administrators if voters next week reject three budget balancing measures.

    Never, never, never.

Do you know how many staffers each State legislator has? Have you ever heard of cutting staff or driving personal cars to work?? It boggles the mind at how big this State’s employment rolls have grown.

Let’s go back to 1966 when the State Legislature was part-time…..they came to do the people’s business and then went home. The only time I truly feel safe is when both our State and National Legislators are on vacation and not making up ridiculous laws that further erode our freedoms.

  13. Alice Linsley says:

Why not fire the teachers and put the prisoners into the schools to teach the kids how not to live. This scenario is no more ridiculous and would work equally well to scare the money out of most Californians’ pockets.

Arnold is the perfect example of what happens when Republicans LISTEN to the Democrats and believe the lie that ‘if you just move towards OUR position” i.e., the ‘center’, “you will be more effective and re-invigorate your party”.

McCain is another example, as is Arlan Specter.

All it does is makes for less effective Republicans and gives the Democrats another feather in their cap and one less road-block to initiating their objectives for socializing America.

The only way Republicans are going to get us out of this mess is to return to conservative roots. Frankly, I have my doubts that this will happen, and we may see the rise of an effective third party.
