Newly-installed Kenyan Archbishop Eliud Wabukala has called for unity among the 77 million-member global Anglican Communion, which is threatened by a split centred, as far as many African bishops are concerned, on the issue of homosexuality.
“We are in a state of brokenness because the truth of the Scripture has not been upheld in some provinces,” said Archbishop Wabukala in July 5 homily after his enthronement as the fifth archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya. “We call on all Anglicans to come together again around the Gospel.”
It is not just the Gospel we must “come around”, but God’s Law also.
Yes, Daniel. As our Lutheran friends would doubtless remind us, Law and Gospel go together (like both blades of a pair of scissors).
I find it rather ironic that the first report to appear here at T19 on ++Eliud Wabukala’s enthronement as Archbishop of Nairobi and Primate of Kenya comes from the liberal Canadian source, The Anglican Journal, which picked up a report from Ecumenical News International, rather than coverage of such an important event coming from a conservative Anglican news source. I hope more news will be forthcoming soon. As the third largest province in the AC, Kenya is of tremendous importance.
I also note that with ++Benjamin Nzimbi’s retirement date being June 30th, it appears that his last major act was to anoint ++Bob Duncan as the new archbishop of the ACNA on June 24th. A great way to end a very distinguished career/ministry.
