Naughton does a good job most of the way reporting what was said. Two things struck me. First, a silly moment (for me) when Gene Robinson begins his speech with “Madam Chair.” This sounds like someone is going to sit on her. Sorry. More seriously, at the end of his blog Naughton recounts a conservative saying he wants to see gays rescued from their destructive lifestyle. This, says Naughton, is not respectful. So you can’t say what you think in this debate, apparently.
Because, in the end, if one is prohibited from pointing out the destructiveness of the lifestyle, then there’s only one viewpoint going be expressed and the debate is over. See how it works, this hijacking of the language?

Not if it’s different from the liberal party line.
