I can relate, but for now, can’t depart. Our parish was hanging on by a thread pre-GC, and could soon fold. Or hang on on life support for awhile. God only knows. I’d rather make the Hospice visitations, serve out the rest of my vestry term (ends in January), and see how the tide flows before Dear Hubby and I head for the gates. There are other folks who don’t understand why this is happening, who need to be informed, calmly and reasonably. Too many responsibilities to act precipitously!

Having left after GC 2006, I fully understand the vestry member (as I was at the time) and the families who left. In our scenario, we had become tired of explaining to our children that doctrine matters, but our church ignored, bent or fudged on doctrine – it made us seem like the dishonest ones. Nevertheless, I still ache for what TEC has made herself into and for all those who are hurt by her unfaithfulness. I pray Fr. Fountain receives God’s great and gentle comfort, fortifying him for all the ministry He has set before him, whatever that looks like.
