Ms. Port might well need that money to fend off Ms. Cohen’s upcoming defamation suit, but I wouldn’t count on it if I were her.

  2. Matthew A (formerly mousestalker) says:

Anyone can sue anyone for any reason in the U S of A. That doesn’t mean the suit has merit.

  3. FenelonSpoke says:

Anonymity on the internet allows people to say absolutely terrible things to people they never would have the guts to say in real life. The comments Ms. Port made were vile. I have no great affection for google, however, but expect that they will win in this lawsuit. People should not assume their anonymity will be protected on the web.

  4. Nick Knisely says:

Ms Cohen might just want to read up on the Streisand Effect.

  5. robroy says:

Had to read up on the Streisand effect, too. Wikipedia (of course) had an interesting article on it.

  6. David Fischler says:

Either Ms. Port is an idiot or is being advised by one. No court on the planet is going to say that Google failed to protect her privacy when it obeyed a court order to turn the information over.

  7. NoVA Scout says:

FenelonSpoke: anonymity also allows people to say absolutely accurate and true things that they would never have the guts to say in real life. It works both ways. If I were a blogmaster, I would insist that commenters use pseudonyms in order to encourage participation. Then I would try to engage this site’s elves to keep it clean, polite, fair and on point.
