The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, called for greater tolerance and understanding of Islam and Muslim communities during a visit to the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre today. He said that harmony and cohesion between all Londoners is vital to the success of the capital.
The Mayor’s message, which comes during the Muslim sacred month of Ramadan, is that there is more that unites Islam and Muslims with other major world religions and with non-Muslims than divides or separates them. In common with many other religions, such as Christianity, Islam teaches that there is only one true God. There are also shared beliefs about societal values and a basic moral code of behaviour.
Will he call for the reverse as well?
Yes, greater tolerance FROM Muslims of the host country (love and gratitude would be too much to expect) that so kindly took them from their disease-ridden, poverty-stricken, war-torn illiterate fiefdoms would be a fine thing. Better if they emigrated to the Pure Land.
I would REALLY like to see a list of Islamic contributions to
Art, education, theater, medicine, physics, social justice, finance, etc, etc.
Indeed, I’m all for reciprocal tolerance. How about the ABC working out an agreement where that new mega-mosque in London is mirrored by a nice 5,000-seat Anglican cathedral in Mecca?
I would remind the Mayor that tolerance works both ways, and if he expects peace in London, he is going to have to demand religious tolerance from every part of the Islamic community……not only in London, but all throughout Britain. One-way tolerance is no tolerance at all. Any Islamic group which refuses to comply should be thrown out of the country.
There are moderate and peaceful muslims. The is no moderate and peaceful Islam.
For #3 drjoan a partial list

Ok, but how about from a non-biased source that doesn’t include taking Greek/Roman/Christian discoveries/arts/etc. and claiming them as their own?

The questions begs,
“Are these advances a result of the impact of Islam upon the cultures that produced them or is it just as likely that these cultures would have produced these advances REGARDLESS of the presence of Islam?”
